The DAC continuously measures your home's total electrical demand at the service entrance using current transformers on the incoming mains, so it always knows your real-time load in kilowatts against a setpoint you've defined. Every large load in the house — the heat pump, backup heat, water heater, dryer, EV charger — is assigned a priority.
As demand rises toward your limit, the controller sheds the lowest-priority loads first, holding them off just long enough to keep you under the threshold, then restores them in order as headroom opens back up. Because it's coordinating the whole service rather than switching one circuit blindly, it sequences loads so they cycle in turn instead of stacking simultaneously — which is what creates the brief current spikes that set your peak.
